Electric and Electronic
These soon-to-be announced instruments are for musicians engaged in live performance who need is to to reproduce (more or less) the sound of his or her instrument through an amplication system for more volume, with minimal feedback problems associated with traditional microphones. The primary goal, however, is to drive the most difficult special effects (e.g. octave boxes) flawlessly, with no tracking (dropped notes) problems. The sound of these instruments is somewhat more focused than the "natural" sound of an acoustic instrument. That being said, a very "natural" acoustic sound can be accomplished with an "acoustic simulutor" signal processor or similar effect. Finally, these instruments have "polyphonic" pickups with a separate output lead for each string (in addition to the "ganged" single output for normal non-MIDI interfacing to effects and amplifiers), which make MIDI processing possible.
The initial instruments will be a 4-string and 5-string violin, as well as several mandolin family instruments.
